Coffee and End Table Project (Part 12)

The end tables are finished! More importantly, Po is pleased. These tables feature 2 drawers for storage and the legs keep the tables high enough to allow our Roomba to get underneath to clean.

Finish

The tables have been stained with 2 applications of Minwax red mahogany stain after applying Minwax Pre-stain Wood Conditioner. To protect the finish I applied 3 coats of Varathane’s Diamond Wood Finish for floors. Yes, that’s the same stuff used to protect hardwood floor.

I also believe in painting a door on all 6 sides. This prevents the door from sticking due to changes in humidity. Rest assured that the insides of these tables were finished just like the outside.

These tables should be able to withstand anything that may be laid on them or spilt on them.

Drawer Slides

The end table drawers run on metal slides for a smooth operation. However, they only came in white and would stand out on the stained sides when the drawers are pulled out. To solve this problem, I spray painted the slides brown so that they would blend in.

Coffee Table

Before I start the coffee table, I have to stain the back deck for our upcoming 25th wedding anniversary. With stain going on sale tomorrow, it will be awhile before I can get around to building the matching coffee tables.
